Clinical Experience
Dr. Zhang earned his medical degree from the Second Military Medical University. To further advance his academic and clinical foundation, he completed a rigorous postdoctoral fellowship under the mentorship of Professor Jia Lianshun at Changzheng Hospital, affiliated with the Second Military Medical University.
Committed to remaining at the forefront of advanced orthopedic treatments, Dr. Zhang has actively expanded his global perspective. He has completed extensive advanced clinical training and engaged in high-level academic exchanges across multiple international medical centers in Germany, the United States, Canada, and Singapore.
Clinical Expertise
Dr. Zhang specializes in both open and minimally invasive surgical treatments for a comprehensive spectrum of spinal disorders, including cervical spondylosis, lumbar disc herniation, lumbar spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, scoliosis, and ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL). He is highly proficient in advanced minimally invasive techniques such as percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic surgery and low-temperature plasma radiofrequency ablation.
In the field of joint surgery, Dr. Zhang demonstrates profound expertise in computer navigation-assisted precise decompression for the joint-preserving treatment of femoral head necrosis. He also excels in minimally invasive joint-preserving procedures such as high tibial osteotomy (HTO), as well as total joint arthroplasty for severe knee osteoarthritis.
Notably, Dr. Zhang maintains an exceptional clinical focus on the complex management of orthopedic conditions complicated by infectious diseases. He possesses extensive clinical experience and offers unique therapeutic strategies for treating orthopedic disorders co-occurring with transmissible diseases, including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, brucellosis, hepatitis B and C, and syphilis. He adeptly manages severe complications such as brucella spondylitis, spinal tuberculosis, and osteoporotic fractures. As a leading authority in this highly specialized niche, he spearheaded the formulation of the Expert Consensus on Perioperative Antiviral Therapy for HIV-Infected Patients in China, providing vital clinical guidelines and standardizing protocols for performing orthopedic surgeries on patients living with HIV.
Research & Awards
Dr. Zhang is deeply committed to advancing orthopedic research and clinical innovation. As a principal investigator, he has spearheaded 12 prestigious research projects funded at the national, military, and Beijing municipal levels. His extensive research efforts and continuous clinical innovations have resulted in the successful acquisition of 17 national patents.
A prolific contributor to medical literature, Dr. Zhang has published over 200 academic papers in both Chinese and English, including more than 60 peer-reviewed articles in prominent SCI-indexed international journals. Furthermore, he has significantly shaped the academic landscape in spine surgery by serving as the editor-in-chief or associate editor for five specialized monographs. His notable published works include Techniques in Cervical Spine Surgery, Surgical Treatment of Spinal Deformities, Internal Fixation Techniques in Spine Surgery, Key Points and Illustrations of Lumbosacral Spine Surgery, and New Operative Techniques in Spine Surgery.
