Education
Dr. Hai earned his medical degree from the First Military Medical University (now Southern Medical University) in 1986. To further elevate his clinical and academic foundation, he pursued rigorous postdoctoral research in the United States at two prestigious institutions. From 1995 to 1996, he completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in Orthopedics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). He subsequently advanced his specialized expertise by undertaking a second postdoctoral fellowship focusing on Spine Surgery at the State University of New York (SUNY) from 1996 to 1997, significantly expanding his international perspective and mastery of cutting-edge spinal treatments.
Clinical Experience
With a distinguished clinical and academic career spanning over 30 years in orthopedics, Dr. Hai has dedicated the past two decades exclusively to the advancement of spine surgery. As a highly accomplished and prolific surgeon, he has successfully performed more than 5,000 spinal procedures as the primary operator. He demonstrates profound surgical mastery in the systematic and minimally invasive management of degenerative spinal diseases, as well as the intricate surgical correction of complex spinal deformities.
Recognized as a clinical pioneer in China, Dr. Hai was among the first surgeons nationwide to introduce and successfully perform a series of cutting-edge spinal techniques. His advanced surgical repertoire encompasses 3D deformity correction utilizing thoracic pedicle screw fixation and total vertebral column resection for severe scoliosis, lateral endoscopic spine surgery for lumbar disc herniation, percutaneous minimally invasive balloon kyphoplasty for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures, and motion-preserving non-fusion technologies such as lumbar artificial total disc replacement. Through his continuous innovation and exceptional surgical precision, Dr. Hai has consistently positioned his clinical practice at the forefront of advanced international standards.

As a trailblazer in his field, he has pioneered and implemented over ten novel surgical technologies, many of which are recognized as leading innovations at both the national and international levels.
Furthermore, Dr. Hai demonstrates exceptional surgical proficiency in the application of motion-preserving non-fusion technologies for degenerative spine conditions, as well as the intricate surgical correction of early-onset and severe pediatric spinal deformities. Through his innovative surgical approaches and unparalleled clinical acumen, he has successfully resolved numerous highly complex and challenging scenarios within the realm of advanced spine surgery.
Research & Awards
Dr. Hai is a highly accomplished clinician-scientist deeply committed to advancing both basic and clinical research in the field of spine surgery. As a principal investigator, he has spearheaded over ten prestigious research initiatives, including major grants funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the National Key Technology R&D Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Beijing Natural Science Foundation. His extensive research portfolio, supported by over three million RMB in scientific funding, has driven significant innovations in spinal treatments and resulted in the successful acquisition of two national invention patents.
A prolific contributor to orthopedic literature, Dr. Hai has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles in core national medical journals, alongside multiple highly cited publications in prominent SCI-indexed international journals. Beyond his primary research articles, he has significantly shaped the academic landscape by serving as the editor-in-chief or lead translator for six authoritative academic monographs, and has contributed his profound expertise as a co-author to twelve additional specialized medical textbooks.
In recognition of his groundbreaking clinical and scientific contributions, Dr. Hai has been honored with numerous prestigious accolades, most notably the Second Prize of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award and the First Prize of the PLA Medical Achievement Award, alongside various other national and military scientific progress awards. As an internationally recognized thought leader, he actively participates in global academic exchanges and has been frequently invited as a visiting scholar and guest lecturer to top-tier medical institutions across more than ten countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, and Singapore.
