Education
Dr. Li earned his Bachelor of Medicine degree from Xi’an Medical University in 1985. Driven by a commitment to clinical excellence, he subsequently pursued advanced international clinical training, completing two specialized fellowships in orthopedics at Singapore General Hospital in 1996 and 2000. Through these programs, he focused on mastering and integrating advanced global concepts and surgical techniques into his clinical practice.
Clinical Experience
Following his graduation in 1985, Dr. Li began his clinical career in the Department of Orthopedics at Beijing Jishuitan Hospital. After completing a rigorous three-year standardized residency program and comprehensive subspecialty rotations, he chose to dedicate his practice exclusively to orthopedic surgery.
Throughout his distinguished tenure of over 30 years at the institution, Dr. Li progressively advanced his clinical and academic roles, ultimately serving as a Chief Physician, Professor, and Master’s Supervisor. Deeply committed to frontline clinical care, he is a highly prolific surgeon who performs over 500 hip and knee joint replacements annually as the primary operator.
Furthermore, his clinical footprint extends internationally, having served as a Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon at Singapore General Hospital, where he actively engaged in international medical collaboration and academic exchanges.
Clinical Expertise
Dr. Li’s clinical practice encompasses the comprehensive management of diverse joint disorders, offering a full spectrum of care from conservative treatments to highly complex surgical interventions. He is exceptionally skilled in primary total hip and total knee arthroplasty, with extensive experience in managing challenging cases. He is highly proficient in performing complex joint replacements for patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), ankylosing spondylitis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Furthermore, he possesses advanced expertise in revision arthroplasty to effectively address postoperative complications such as implant loosening, infection, and joint dislocation.
In addition to major joint arthroplasty, Dr. Li has conducted in-depth clinical research on the treatment of femoral head necrosis. He advocates for a systematic, stage-based treatment approach tailored to disease progression. For early-stage patients, he utilizes joint-preserving procedures such as core decompression and tantalum rod implantation; for mid-to-late stage patients experiencing femoral head collapse, he recommends and performs total hip arthroplasty.
Beyond the hip and knee, Dr. Li also maintains specialized expertise in foot and ankle surgery. As a clinical pioneer in China, he was among the first to introduce and perform artificial metatarsophalangeal joint replacements and total ankle replacements, providing advanced therapeutic options for patients suffering from foot and ankle osteoarthritis.
Research & Awards
Dr. Li is dedicated to advancing the clinical application of novel joint surgery techniques in China. As a clinical pioneer, he was among the first nationwide to perform high-flexion total knee arthroplasty. This advanced technique significantly improves postoperative knee range of motion, enabling patients to comfortably perform demanding movements such as squatting and kneeling. He has also actively promoted cementless artificial joint replacement techniques, utilizing porous-coated prostheses to facilitate bone ingrowth and enhance long-term implant stability.
In his scientific research, Dr. Li primarily focuses on perioperative pain management and the integration mechanisms between prostheses and bone tissue. He has extensively investigated the application of trabecular metal modular acetabular cup systems in total hip arthroplasty, demonstrating their excellent osteoconductive and osteoinductive properties that effectively promote bone ingrowth and improve the initial stability of the prosthesis.
As a dedicated clinical scholar, Dr. Li has published over 40 papers in domestic and international academic journals. Furthermore, he has contributed his profound expertise as a co-author to several specialized orthopedic monographs. His notable co-authored publications include the Beijing Jishuitan Hospital Joint Surgery Manual and Practical Surgical Techniques and Rapid Recovery for Minimally Invasive Hip and Knee Arthroplasty, which systematically summarize the extensive clinical experience and advanced protocols of Beijing Jishuitan Hospital in the field of joint surgery.
