Abstract
With the increase of the aging population in our country, it is foreseeable that the number of elderly patients who choose to have hip arthroplasty ( HA ) because of osteoarthritis and femoral neck fracture will increase. Osteoarthritis patients who need hip arthroplasty are also high-risk osteoporosis patients. Surgeons will face more and more osteoporotic patients that will have THA surgery. We need to consider several important clinical issues, including the relationship between hip osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, femoral anatomical features, initial osseointegration of the prosthesis, prosthesis selection, clinical outcome of THA with osteoporosis, complications and the use of anti-osteoporosis drugs. This article reviews and analyzes the problems of osteoporosis patients that will have THA.
