Education

Dr. Kou earned his medical degree from the Department of Medicine at Beijing Medical College in 1977. He subsequently commenced his clinical practice at the Department of Orthopedics, Peking University People’s Hospital in 1978. To further elevate his surgical expertise, he completed advanced clinical training in orthopedics at the Chinese PLA General Hospital (301 Hospital) and in hand surgery at Beijing Jishuitan Hospital. In September 1989, Dr. Kou expanded his international clinical perspective by serving as a visiting scholar at the Emstek Orthopedic Hospital of the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany. Under the mentorship of Professor Kerlaus Jhn, he completed systematic and rigorous training in joint arthroplasty, arthroscopic techniques, and postoperative rehabilitation systems.

Clinical Experience

Following his return to China in 1992, Dr. Kou joined the Department of Orthopedics at Peking University People’s Hospital, dedicating his clinical practice exclusively to hip and knee joint arthroplasty. As a highly experienced and high-volume surgeon, he consistently performs over 100 related joint replacement procedures annually.

A notable milestone in his clinical career occurred in June 2000, when he was featured in a special medical broadcast by China Central Television (CCTV). During this event, Dr. Kou successfully performed a live bilateral total hip arthroplasty in Yan’an, establishing a pioneering precedent for the live-streaming of joint replacement surgeries nationwide.

Research & Awards

Dr. Kou is actively engaged in academic exchange and the advancement of orthopedic literature. In October 2004, he represented China at the 25th Anniversary of the Zweymüller Joint Arthroplasty system, delivering a keynote presentation summarizing the clinical applications and outcomes of joint arthroplasty in China. Furthermore, he has contributed his clinical expertise to several specialized medical monographs, serving as a co-author for Surgery of Joint Arthroplasty and Manual of Clinical Orthopedic Examination. He has also published multiple academic papers focusing on joint arthroplasty in core national medical journals, including the Chinese Journal of Orthopaedics and the Chinese Journal of Surgery.
